Welcome to Border Co.

Border Co. was supposed to be two things when it started: a place for prose and a lifestyle brand selling goods designed for the open road.

Then came a realization: the world has enough stuff in it. Brilliant makers are already out there. Seek them out and support them. Buy slow. Buy intentional. I wrote more about choosing words over goods in the essay, Breaking the Habit.

The concept was pared back. Border Co. became a space exclusively for short stories and essays that explore the quiet corners of everyday life. If it were a thing, it would be a deserted street at 5 am; a state line gas station at dusk; the disturbed sheets in an old motel bedroom; the private rituals of people in their homes.

While Border Co. first drew heavily on the aesthetic of the West, it now explores a landscape where the author's broader influences can mingle and coexist.

Its fiction explores the lives of small towns and grand landscapes across America. Its essays pull on personal perspectives across travel and the role of writing in my life.

The process can be vulnerable and chaotic.
